Traditional maintenance approaches are often based on fixed intervals without taking into account the actual condition of the components.  This can lead to unnecessary maintenance or unexpected breakdowns that affect rail traffic.  <\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div><div class=\"wp-block-group-container alignfull \">\n<div class=\"wp-block-group is-layout-constrained wp-block-group-is-layout-constrained\">\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading has-medium-font-size\">Project goals<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Increased safety: Early detection of wear and potential malfunctions reduces the risk of malfunctions and accidents.  <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Increased availability: Planned maintenance measures based on actual condition data minimize downtimes and maximize operational readiness.  <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Optimization of life cycle costs: More efficient maintenance strategies reduce costs in the long term and extend the service life of infrastructure components.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Innovative solutions<\/h3>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Real-time data fusion: PRM 4.0 integrates route and vehicle data as well as external sources such as weather information and timetables. This comprehensive collection of data provides an accurate picture of the current state of the infrastructure.  <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Energy self-sufficient sensor technology: The use of innovative, energy self-sufficient sensors continuously records relevant parameters on the switches without the need for external energy sources.  <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Artificial intelligence and machine learning: AI and machine learning are used to derive precise forecasts about the short and medium-term condition of the switches from the collected data. This enables condition-based and predictive maintenance.  <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<p>Building on the results of PRM 4.0, the technologies developed are being further developed and implemented on a broader scale in the ongoing EU follow-up project iam4rail.
